Roc Nation Launches $2.3 Million Counter Suit Against Rita Ora

After signing a five album contract with Roc Nation in 2008 Rita Ora filed a lawsuit against the label in December 2015, citing to have been ‘orphaned’ due to the label’s other huskiness endeavours.

Jay Z called the singer – songwriter after the lawsuit was filed and agreed to relieve Ora from her contract. However, the rapper turned businessman filed a counter suit of $2.3 million, which according to Roc Nation, was invested in marketing her sophomore album.

“Roc Nation’s market and recording costs, to date, for Ms. Ora’s still incomplete second album are not less than $2, 353, 500,” the lawsuit states.

The complaint, which was filed in a L.A. Superior Court, states: “When Rita signed, Roc Nation and its senior executives were very involved with her as an interest.

“As Roc Nation’s interests diversified, there were fewer resources available, and the company suffered a revolving door of executives. Rita’s remaining supporters at the label left or moved on to other activities, to the point where she no longer had a relationship with anyone at the company.”

Ora’s lawyer, Howard King, told The New York Daily News, he hopes to reach a settlement prior to the April 19 hearing deadline.

Taking to Daily News Monday, King said, “I think we’re just going to resolved  this. He said he’s happy to let her go. He called her the day after he filed and graciously said she didn’t need to file.

“I’m paraphrasing, but he said, ‘if you want off the label, we’ll let you go.'”

The lawyer also claims to believe Roc Nation’s new counter – lawsuit was filed ‘reluctantly’.

J. Cole Apologises for Autism Lyric

J Cole

J. Cole has confessed to a mistake for a lyric referring to autism in a collaboration track with Drake. The rapper has issued a sincere apology for the offensive lyric on his blog Dreamvillian in which he states, ‘You deserve medals, not disrespect’.

On the Drake supported song, Jodeci Freestyle, the Roc Nation star raps: “I’m artistic, you ni**as is autistic, retarded.” The lyric has caused outrage and anger amongst his fans, which Cole has said to have prompted complaints.

In the letter on his blog, Cole explained that an apology was ‘necessary’ after the reactions of his fans have expressed towards him.

Cole is not the first artist to cause controversy with his lyrics. Lil Wayne lost an endorsement deal with Pepsi in May because of a lyric making a crude reference about Civil Rights figure Emmett Till. Furthermore, Rick Ross was also dropped after Reebok cut ties with him after a lyric in which the rapper appeared to condone date rape.

Read his heartfelt apology below.

Autism Speaks

Recently there’s been a trend that includes rappers saying something offensive, only to be attacked for it in the media and pressured to apologize. I have to be completely honest and say there’s a part of me that resents that. I view rap similar to how I view comedy. It’s going to ruffle feathers at times. It’s going to go “too far”. I do not believe that an apology is needed every time someone is offended, especially when that apology is really only for the sake of saving an endorsement or cleaning up bad press.

With that said, this is not the case today. This letter is sincere. This apology IS necessary.

In a recent verse on the song “Jodeci Freestyle”, I said something highly offensive to people with Autism. Last week, when I first saw a comment from someone outraged about the lyric, I realized right away that what I said was wrong. I was instantly embarrassed that I would be ignorant enough to say something so hurtful. What makes the crime worse is that I should have known better.

To the entire Autism community who expressed outrage, I’m moved and inspired by your passion, and I’m amazed at how strong you are as a unit. I have now read stories online from parents about their struggles and triumphs with raising an Autistic child and I admire how incredibly strong you have to be to do so. It’s touching. It also makes what I said even more embarrassing for me. I feel real shame. You have every right to be angry.

To anyone suffering from Autism, either mildly or severely, I am sorry. I’m bound to make mistakes in my life, but in my heart I just want to spread Love.

I want to educate myself more on Autism, and I’ll gladly own my mistake and serve as an example to today’s generation that there’s nothing cool about mean-spirited comments about someone with Autism. People with this disorder and their loved ones have to go through so much already, the last thing they need is to hear something as ignorant as what I said. I understand.

To the parents who are fighting through the frustrations that must come with raising a child with severe autism, finding strength and patience that they never knew they had; to the college student with Asperger’s Syndrome; to all those overcoming Autism. You deserve medals, not disrespect. I hope you accept my sincere apology.

Much Love

Drake Responds To Latest Rumours Of Leaving Young Money

Earlier last week rumours emerged that Drake may be leaving Young Money record label to join rivalry Jay- Z’s label Roc Nation. After his boss Lil Wayne tweeted: “Sweetheart dont u know that when u lose me, u lose yourself? I’ll be loyal before I lie and honored before I’m dishonest. – tunechi.”

The media and fans were quick to judge whether it was an indirect hint to say Drake would be leaving YMCMB. Cash Money boss Birdman even denied such report was true and even tweeted a post written by an anonymous person which read:  “Some blog sites are starting to spread this rumor just for attention. The rumor states that Drizzy has fired managers Gee Roberson, Al Branch, Kyambo Joshua and Bryant Cortez of Hip Hop Since 1978.”

The post continued: “These four managers also manage Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj. Firing management after getting a number 1 album and 650,000 record sales in a week? THIS IS NOT TRUE.”

But with the message from the anonymous person wasn’t enough, fans have been on edge waiting to hear a reply from the rapper himself.  And he certainly cleared the rumours again after he took to twitter to write: “If you ever wake up in the morning and think Young Money ain’t my team, you out your motherf**king mind. I’ma tell you that right now.”

So now that’s clear and dusted let’s hope those rumours don’t arise again!
