Priyanka Chopra Talks About Playing Kashibai

Priyanka Chopra

In an exclusive interview with, Priyanka Chopra spoke of her latest role, playing Kashibai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. The film which has garnered much attention has received exceptional recognition from fans and film critics alike.

The actress expressed her thoughts upon playing the pivotal role, revealing that she wouldn’t have agreed to the decisions Kashibai makes regarding Bajirao’s relationship with Mastani.

“To play a character that I don’t agree with, as a woman if my husband fell in love with someone else I would say thank you very much, goodbye! I am out! Kashi did that in her own way also, she said I love you enough to see you happy, if you are happy with her please go just don’t come back to my door, which at that time was a big deal. Kashi was forogtten in history , nobody talks about her, nobody knows of her, because Bajirao and Mastani’s story is so forbidden and so epic, and hats off to Sanjay sir for giving her such a strong voice.”

Priyanka went on to discuss, her belief in Bhansali’s cinematic creation of films was what made her determined to play the role even more, despite the director assuming she wouldn’t have accepted it.

“I always knew Kashi was an amazing role, I was the first person to be cast for the film. I remember when I was doing Mary Kom, Sanjay sir said she won’t do it, and we discussed it. For me what was wonderful about Kashi was that am a greedy Sanjay Bhansali fan, am a believer in his world and cinema. I can talk to him for hours about films and his acute understanding of human emotions and that is what Kashi was for me. I used to look forward to coming on the set all dressed up as Kashi. He throws googlys, and am an actor who loves hitting a six when its thrown at me.”

Recounting how she undertook to play Kashibai, Priyanka explained, “My instincts come on, am not a prep or a method actor, I have always been very instinctive. He has such a beautiful understanding of silences and Kashi has no words, so silences were all that I had, my eyes and face, it was like Jhilmil, there wasn’t much she could say it was the 1700′s, so it was a welcome challenge.”

On December 3, 2015, the prosecution urged the Bombay High Court not to show any tolerance to Salman Khan for his participation in the 2002 hit-and-run case, for which he was convicted for in May this year. reports – the prosecution – while closing on their arguments, they urged that the Bollywood star to be sentenced the five-year imprisonment which he was given by a sessions court for running his car into a bakery shop in suburban Bandra, killing one man and injuring four others.

Public prosecutors, Sandeep Shinde and Purnima Kantharia argued Khan was drunk at the time of the accident and smelt of alcohol when he was brought into hospital for a medical check-up the next day.

They further dismissed the theory, Khan’s driver Ashok Singh, was driving the car at the time of the accident and had lost control of the vehicle after its tyre burst. It argued the tyre burst after the car had rammed into the bakery.

Depending on the testimony of the injured along with other circumstantial evidence, the prosecution argued Khan was behind the wheel at the time of the incident which took place on September 28, 2002.

This disputes the claim of the defence that there were three persons in the car and Khan was not driving the vehicle. The prosecution maintain that only Khan, his bodyguard and policeman Ravindra Patil, and the actor’s friend, singer Kamaal Khan were in the vehicle.

The trial court held on May 6, had the actor to be guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and is presently out on bail granted by the High Court.

Anushka Sharma Admits She Wanted Parineeti Chopra’s Role In Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl

She played the leading role in Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl but it was Parneeti Chopra’s part Anushka Sharma was more interested in. The actress admitted that she found Chopra’s role more interesting than hers in the four-heroine project.

BollywoodLife quotes the Bombay Velvet star saying: “I am usually very secure as an actor. But I really wanted Parineeti’s role in LVRB and told Maneesh (Sharma, the director) that I want that role. He was all like ‘But that isn’t the lead role’.”

Sharma added: “But I still said I want that role. He finally said that he couldn’t give me that role. But that’s how I think. Parineeti’s role was the best role in that film and I kept telling him ‘Mujhe woh hi chahiye’. So that’s how I look at things.”

The 27-year-old who worked with Katrina Kaif in Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Priyanka Chopra in Dil Dhadakne Do, explained her choices of different characters: “In DDD, my screen time may not be as much, but it’s the coolest part. It wasn’t something I’d done before. I knew the role was incredible and that Zoya would do a great job with it. In JTHJ, I thought my role was fabulous. It was great and I knew I could do something fun with it. I knew I had that security in that sense. No one is forcing me to do something. I am at a place in my life where I can say no to things. If you are taking it up with the willingness to do it, why would you have any insecurity?”

Sharma continued: “I am not one of those actresses who is going to bother about what she is wearing, how long will the other actresses’ role be, etc. I have no idea how many days each actor gives to a film and who is signing what. I don’t ask those kind of questions. It’s just too taxing. That information does nothing to me. I don’t need to know all that. I have faith in the director, faith in the project and most importantly faith in myself that I will be able to do a good job with the role. I am so focussed on doing my job correctly. Where is the time to sit and think what someone else is doing?”

Anushka Sharma’s current movie Bombay Velvet is in theatres. Her forthcoming movie Dil Dhadakne Do will be released on June 5 2015.

Salman Khan’s Arms Act Case: Actor’s Plea Rejected By Court For Witness Re-examination

The district and sessions court in Jodhpur rejected Salman Khan’s revision petition for re-examination of witnesses in a case related to illegal possession and use of arms violating the Arms Act on May 14. Jodhpur District and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Vyas refused to interfere in the subordinate court’s decision while upholding the decision of the chief judicial magistrate.

A case had been registered against Khan by the forest department under the Arms Act stating that licence of the arms used by Khan during the alleged poaching of black buck at village Kankani on the intervening night of October 1-2, 1998, had expired.

Through his advocate, Khan moved an application before the CJM court on April 22 requesting re-examination of five witnesses. Counsel for the actor said after three eight-year-old applications of the prosecutions were allowed and four witnesses were examined, the situation of the case has changed.

The application was dismissed by the CJM court on April 23 which he challenged by filing a revision petition before the district and sessions court.

The arguments made by Khan’s advocate, Hastimal Saraawat, the public prosecutor alleged in the court that Khan was trying to delay the verdict.

Saraswat said: “We will examine the decision of the court as soon as we get a copy of it and may avail an appropriate legal remedy.”

Salman Khan and actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam were accused of poaching near Jodhpur during the shooting of the film Hum Saath Saath Hain.
