Since news broke out Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone will be performing a lavani number in their forthcoming movie Bajirao Bastani, the much discussed dance has been endlessly compared to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit’s Dola Re from Devdas(2002). The song portrayed a dance battle between their characters over their love for …
Nevertheless, Priyanka has said the special number shouldn’t be compared to Dola Re as they don’t carry any similarities.
“I know that comparisons with Devdas are inevitable and people will pit us like that, but honestly, there shouldn’t be any comparisons. There is absolutely nothing similar between the two. Don’t compare us to them. That is a classic. Ours is more about the first wife versus the second wife and has a lot of heart-wrenching moments,” the actress told DNA.
Speaking about performing the dance with Deepika, Priyanka added, “Shooting with Deepika for the dance number was absolutely brilliant. I am glad we did this together, especially because she is a friend and I have known her for a while now. I really like the way it’s turned out.”
The song has been said to be the climax of the movie. The dance sequence will be seen trying to win Peshwa Baji Rao’s (played by Ranveer Singh) heart. The song, which was shot over 12 days has been choreographed by Remo D’Souza.
Priyanka Chopra will be playing Kashibai, the first wife of Maratha warrior Peshwa Baji Rao along with Deepika Padukone who will play as Mastani, as his second wife.
The movie will be directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
