According to reports Floyd Mayweather is being sued for $20 million by the mother of three of his children, Josie Harris – for lying about their infamous 2010 domestic violence.
According to TMZ Sports’, Harris claims she felt degraded after Mayweather spoke on the domestic violence case which he pleaded guilty and served prison time in 2011 for the incident. In an April 2015 interview with Katie Couric, the boxer alleged he was protecting his family from a drug user and wasn’t someone who brutally attacked a woman.
In the interview Mayweather said: “Did I kick, stomp and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen. I look in your face and say, ‘No, that didn’t happen.’ Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that’s domestic violence, then, you know what? I’m guilty. I’m guilty of restraining someone.’ ”
In the lawsuit Harris states she has been tainted as a liar and a drug addict following the interview. She also claims that Mayweather broke into her home and attacked her whilst she was sleeping in front of their son. In addition, Harris’ lawyer says the Couric interview was “knowingly fabricated in order to hype Mayweather’s upcoming fight with Pacquiao, to avoid bad press by deflecting responsibility for beating the mother of his children.”
Mayweather was sentenced to 90 days to prison after reaching a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanour battery in exchange for prosecutors dropping the felony battery charge. He served two months in county jail.
