Akshay Kumar’s latest film Gabbar Is Back has amassed Rs 47 crore since hitting theatres last weekend. After receiving mixed reviews the film has impressed the viewers; opening with Rs 13.05 crore at the box office on the first day, beating Ranbir Kapoor-Arjun Rampal starrer Roy which grossed Rs 11.35 crore.
Though films like Anushka Sharma’s NH10, Varun Dhawan’s Badlapur, and Akshay’s Baby have done well at the box office Gabbar Is Back marks to be the biggest opener of 2015.
Akshay Kumar plays a Messiah called Gabbar, fighting against injustice and corruption. The film has been directed by Krish and co-produced Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Shruti Haasan stars in the female lead whilst Kareena Kapoor Khan makes a special appearance.
Bollywood is yet to see more big releases: Piku starring Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone is next to hit the silver screen followed by Bombay Velvet starring Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor. Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns and multi-starrer Dil Dhadakne Do starring Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Anil Kapoor are also set to be released.
