After announcing a biopic based on the life of the late Whitney Houston, Lifetime has revealed they also have plans on a project on the career of the late Aaliyah who topped the charts from 1994 until her sudden death at the age of 22 in 2001.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the biopic will star the Disney Channel actress and singer Zendaya Coleman as the late singer in the tentatively titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.
The film will be based off of Christopher Farley’s best – selling biography Aaliyah: More Than A Woman. The film will be produced by Aaliyah Productions Inc. with Howard Braunstein and Debra Martin Chase serving as executive producers. Bradley Walsh will also direct from a script written by Michael Elliot.
Zendaya who has starred on Disney’s Shake It Up tweeted about her new acting venture: “She’s been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter then ever, all I wanna do is honor her.”
She added: “Show how much she accomplished in only 22 years….she’s beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, I just hope to share her beautiful story, and make her proud up in heaven.”
The 17 year – old actress – singer has also released her self – titled debut album in 2013 and has appeared on Dancing With the Stars.
